“Frank Theys shows a video film of an intimate kissing couple,
realized by an MR-scan. Eros and Thanatos, love and death, are in
the history of art, especially in Romanticism, close related to each
other. An example is the kiss of death. Theys claims that a kiss always
incorporates something morbid because it confronts someone with his
own flesh. The romantic and passionate kiss in the Hollywood movies
of the fifties is, as he believes, not possible anymore; the image
of a kiss, as symbol for the mysterious, romantic love, is over. The
advanced technology of postmodern society has uncovered everything
that was hidden under its skin; it profaned and perverted nature as
well as romantic feelings.” Greta Van Broeckhoven, catalogue
